In a visit to Accra, Ghana's capital, in which he was joined by his family, the artist heard a speech from the country's President, Nana Akufo-Addo, who praised his skills and links to Africa.
"By conferring Ghanaian citizenship to him, we not only recognise his immense talent and achievements, but also acknowledge his deep connection to the African continent."
Stevie Wonder told the BBC: "For years, I've talked about being in Ghana, I started talking about it in 1973".
American music icon Stevie Wonder has been granted Ghanaian citizenship.
