A good five months after the death of US singer Aaron Carter, the cause of death has now been determined. The 34-year-old drowned in his bathtub under the influence of drugs, the Los Angeles coroner said on Tuesday.
According to the autopsy report, Carter was found to have a chemical that can be inhaled with canned compressed air and Xanax, a prescription drug for anxiety. Authorities classified the death as an accident.
Carter was found dead in a bathtub at his home in Lancaster, California on November 6, 2022. The forensic medicine said he was pronounced dead by paramedics who had been called.
As a child, he rose to fame with hits like "Crush On You" and "Aaron's Party."
The younger brother of Backstreet Boys member Nick Carter celebrated great success in the late '90s with hits like "Crush On You" and "Aaron's Party" when he was still a child. Since then he has repeatedly attempted a comeback without success. On a world tour in 2015 he also stopped in Germany. In the years leading up to his death, he struggled primarily with psychological problems and addiction to medicines and drugs. He also fell out publicly with his family. The two brothers Nick and Aaron repeatedly made bad accusations against each other. In 2019, Nick claimed his younger brother made threats against the family. Aaron Carter was also at odds with his twin sister Angel – after all, Nick and Angel applied for a ban on contact.
Carter became a father for the first time less than a year before his death. "Prince is precious, I love you, son," he wrote on Instagram at the time of the birth in November 2021. But just a week later he separated from his mother, his fiancé Melanie Martin. Going their separate ways for "personal reasons," he wrote on Twitter.
Carter's troubles were seen by many as a result of his early fame. Experts keep pointing out the high pressure that children and young people are exposed to, especially in the US entertainment industry.
