It was an exceptionally windy day across the region.
“It’s time to bundle up,” said Nevaeh Brown of North Philadelphia.
An icy chill filled the air as people skated at the Rothman Rink in Dilworth Park.
“You see me, I’m outside and I’m warm and comfortable, but it’s been really, really cold out here,” Brown added.
With the wintry weather settling in, the Made in Philadelphia Holiday Market returned this week.
“Very windy and cold,” said Celia Wolf of Maker Missya.
Vendors said they came prepared.
“We’ve got our heater keeping us warm, and everything has stayed steady, so that’s a good sign,” Wolf noted.
But the crowds were less consistent.
“It’s a little quieter now—maybe everyone went to the Eagles game,” she said.
At the Linc, fans braved the fierce winds.
“At the tailgate you embrace the elements,” said Jonathan Cairone of Point Breeze.
Tailgaters still showed up in full force despite the gusty conditions.
“We couldn’t put up a tent, couldn’t raise our flags, and we’ve lost a bunch of stuff,” said Gregg Miller of West Chester.
Even so, seasoned fans had a strategy to keep things under control.
“We’ve got a solid system; we’ve been doing this for a long time. The wind was a lot, but we handled it—we had our weights ready,” said Becky Bradley of Feasterville.
